Oedipus Rex Commentary

The story Oedipus Rex is of dramatic irony (where the audience knows what is going on but the characters do not). In the beginning of this story, Oedipuses parents send him away as an oracle decided that Oedipus will murder his own family. He is raised by another kingdom and once he becomes older he voyages out and he passes an oracle which tells Oedipus that he will kill his father and sleep with his mother. Oedipus doesn't want this fate so he runs to the other upcoming town. As he arrives, he is rudely greeted by an old man and Oedipus did not like that. Once again the old man hits him on the head with his staff and they have a duel and Oedipus kills the old man. What he doesn't know is the old man he murdered was his father and his fate was slowly becoming true. He arrives to the citu of his fathers and meets the Sphinx. The Sphinx asks Oedipus a riddle and it will remove the plague from that city and a wife. Oedipus solves the riddle and frees the city of the plague and as well gets the woman, Jocasta. He rules the city for quite some time, until someone finds out abou the death of their previous king. Oedipus tries to find out who the killer is and is told that he is the killer. Oedipus doesn't believe it but Jocasta remembers of her baby and realizes she married her son and she goes and hangs herself. Oedipus realizes later on that the prophecy became true and goes to speak to Jocasta but finds out he is too late as he sees his wife dangling from the ceiling on a rope. He cuts out his eyes and loses power of his kingdom.

Is It Magical Realism?

The book, Life Of Pi, is a story of magical realism. Richard Parker waa never real, but only symbolized something deeper. Richard Parker represented Pi's wild side which was held back by his tamed side by what religion and society thought. Pi thought that religion and society were the two most important things to fit into in his lifetime, he thought breaking the rules would cause him to break out of the social and religious network. This causes readers to think deeper about the context and find a deeper meaning toward the story which was that stories can give deeper and true meanings to our life.

Why Might The Life Of Pi Be A Work Of Magical Realism?

In the novel, Life of Pi, Yann Martel made the book very fascinating with many metaphors and symbolism included in the story that makes you think deeper about the context. Life Of Pi could be a work of magical realism because of it's many metaphors and his use of the word Pi or 3.14. Martel may have used this to show that 3.14 is representing something deeper. It could be 3 for how many religions he worshipped, 1 for him alone on the boat, and 4 for the number of animals on the boat with him. This ties to his theme because everyone has purpose in life and maybe Pi's purpose was to tell his great story to others.

Reader Autobiography

People read so that they can expand their vocabulary and go on amazing adventures they can't go on in the real world. What makes a person a reader is that they enjoy reading and love to read to themselves. In order for someone to be a good reader, they have to love reading and just enjoy the entertainment that books provide. My favorite author is Rick Riordan because I've always been into mythology. I really don't like to read so I don't consider myself a good reader. My family and teachers taught me how to read okay. I see myself as a person who doesn't like to read. I would like to be able to fall deep into the book. I like to do private reading because I'm able to focus on my topic and theme of the story. I want to be able to read long books without getting off topic.

Writer Self-Study

I improveor fun and entertainment. I enjoy when people read my work and a smile appears upon their face. I believe i am a writer because i enjoy doing it and it opens up my creativity to different levels and is an excellent way to get your ideas out. What I need to be a good writer is pretty simple. You need a brain, pencil, and a piece of paper. You use your brain to come up with ideas and open up your creativity which you write in your paper using your pencil. I would consider myself an okay writer and probably could identify me because of my spontaneous writing. I learned from practice and tutorials from other teachers. They helped me write better scripts to improve my writing. I'm really passionate about my writings because I like to pour out my deepest thoughts onto the paper that lies in front of me. I would like to be able to write in every person well because I'll be able to write amazing stories that people will love. I like to do biographies because I like to write about what happens in my every day life and I get to write down my each and every thoughts down. So I pretty much enjoy every type of writing. I learned that everyone writes differently. My process for writing was painful because of how much the topic confused me and i just didn't enjoy writing at all.
